To set standards for ART units and to monitor achievement of such standards. Where appropriate, to provide feedback to the ART units where practices may be enhanced.
2 To encourage :
To encourage adherence to best practice principles (quality management systems).
3 To ensure :
To ensure compliance with the Code of Practice for Assisted Reproductive Technology units.
4 To monitor and review :
To monitor and review applications and reapplications for accreditation and to visit ART units to assess compliance with the code. To grant accreditation with or without conditions for a period not exceeding three years.
5 To publish :
a list of accredited units;
a biannual report of activities, including advances in treatment;
the Code of Practice for Assisted Reproductive Technology Units; and
recommendations for alterations of the code.
6 To ensure :
To ensure that ART units comply with the Research Involving Human Embryos Act 2002.
7 To advise :
To advise ART units on the need to comply with relevant legislation or regulations.
